Recognizing WhatsApp and Telegram Job Scams

A specific, high-volume scam pattern targets students and job-seekers directly on WhatsApp and Telegram. It's worth understanding exactly how it works, because the pattern is highly consistent. How it typically unfolds: 1. An unsolicited message arrives claiming to be from a "recruiter" or "HR" at a well-known company, often referencing a vague "part-time opportunity" with unusually high pay for minimal work (e.g., "like and subscribe to videos for ₹500 each"). 2. Early tasks are simple and you actually get paid a small amount, this is designed to build trust. 3. You're then moved to a "VIP" or "advanced" task group, which requires you to deposit money into a wallet or account to "unlock" higher-paying tasks, with a promise of both your deposit and profit being returned. 4. Once a meaningful deposit is made, withdrawals get blocked, additional "fees" are demanded to release funds, and eventually the scammer disappears or blocks you. Why this works: the small real payout early on creates false confidence, and the "task-based" framing makes it feel more like a real gig than a scam.
